Ingredients

2 cups flour
1 tbsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1 tbsp sugar
1/2 cup cold butter, cubed
3/4 cup cold buttermilk
2 tbsp melted butter, for brushing

Equipment

  • 1 Baking sheet
  • 1 Mixing bowl

Method

Step 1: Preheat the oven to 450°F (230°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment.
Step 2: Whisk flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar.
Step 3: Cut in cold butter until crumbly.
Tip: Keep the butter and buttermilk cold for flaky layers.
Step 4: Stir in buttermilk just until combined.
Tip: Don't overmix, or the biscuits can turn tough.
Step 5: Drop spoonfuls of dough onto the baking sheet.
Step 6: Bake for 12 to 15 minutes, until golden.
Step 7: Brush with melted butter right out of the oven.

                    Notes

Brush with butter immediately after baking so it soaks in while the biscuits are still hot.
